Summary of I&E Lesson, 27th Feb

Hello 2-08,

As mentioned during today's I&E lesson, submission for the following:

1) Individual Assignment:
Q1. Read this article and comment how Singapore can maintain its edge / niche and remain competitive?
Q2. What will be Singapore's niche in 10 years (year 2022) - you will be 24 years old and perhaps just started work...?

Each student to answer the above questions. Each answer between 200 to 250 words.

2) Social Innovation Report 2012 (in groups of 3, 4 maximum)
All sections to be completed (with 8 Root Causes, Solution Ideas).

The objective for the group submission is to evaluate the different perspectives of the root causes and the solution ideas (rather than the innovation of the solution).

Due Date / Time: Wed, 29th Feb / 12 noon (No further extension since it already is a leap year...)

Ideation & I&E Lesson Summary - 6 Feb

Hello Sec 2-08,

Summary: Singapore relies on innovation to stay relevant.


A) Individual Assignment:
Q1. Read this article and comment how Singapore can maintain its edge / niche and remain competitive?
Q2. What will be Singapore's niche in 10 years (year 2022) - you will be 24 years old and perhaps just started work...?

Each student to answer the above questions. Each answer between 200 to 250 words.


B) Lesson Objectives: Ideation

1. What is the problem?
2. How big is the problem?
3. How will it impact the society if it is not solved?
4. Why does the problem exist?
5. What is the root cause?

Each group has 3 students.

Select the best problem to work on and clearly describe your problem using the above questions.

Questions to think about...

  • Does innovation need to be small or big at the beginning? Why?
  • If the innovation needs to be put to the market, how would you like the product to be …?

C) Submission: Each group to choose a representative, submit their replies to this post.

Summary of I&E Lesson 1, 2 with Assignments

Goals of Innovation and Entrepreneurship:

1. Active Innovation

2. Living Entrepreneurship

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship curriculum aims to:

a) provide students with the foundational knowledge and understanding of innovation and entrepreneurship;

b) foster in students an innovative spirit whereby they would embrace change;

c) help students understand that innovation is part of the change process towards excellence;

d) inculcate in students an entrepreneurial mindset of seeking and seizing opportunities through change and being resourceful in their endeavours;

e) equip them with the relevant innovation and entrepreneurial skills to practise innovation and entrepreneurship in simulated and authentic contexts.

Assignment: Kindly post your comments (include your name, please)...

1) Write as 3 key words related to innovation

2) Think and comment about 3 metaphors (include pictures of your objects for your post) to represent innovation. Describe how your metaphor represents innovation.

Think and comment about 3 ground rules conducive for 'Brainstorming'.

4) Think and comment about either
i) 3 lesson venues (outside of the conventional classroom, within SST) or;
ii) 3 classroom table / seating arrangement conducive for discussion and group learning.

Hello Sec 2-08 / Change Makers,
As discussed during I&E lesson:

Challenge (9 Jan):
Look for a problem in our society / world that you would like to help solve, this problem must lead to some form of social innovation preferably in the form of product innovation (Note: this is different from a charity drive or canvassing for funds).

Once you have found the problem that you would really like to solve, 
i) understand the problem,
ii) express the problem clearly
iii) discuss your proposed solution in your class I&E blog.
